P180 Avanti II
The P180 Avanti II is a bit hard to classify. Its a dual “pusher” turboprop airplane that flies more like a jet. As far as charter aircraft go it is perhaps the ultimate compromise between speed, comfort and efficiency. With a ceiling of 41,000ft it can fly above the weather similar to most jets yet burn fuel at a rate of slightly less than 100 gallons per hour, which jets simply can’t even touch.
The Avanti has been in production for 20 years now and the original design has needed little improvement over the years. Mostly just updates in avionics and the interior spaces. It now comes with the Rockwell Collins Pro Line 21 avionics suite. This makes the load easy for the crew, which may only be a single pilot as its a single pilot airplane although most flights use a crew of 2.
The cabin is large and luxurious. You almost have to move up to a mid-size jet aircraft to find comparable room in the cabin to move around and relax. Overall the Avanti II is the ultimate charter airplane with its mix of speed and cabin comfort and affordable charter rates.
